2017 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon


On Sunday 17th September, over 3,500 participants set off on their 13.1 mile journey from Ormeau Park in a bid to complete the largest Half Marathon event in Northern Ireland, the 5th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon. 

The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon is sponsored by Athletics Northern Ireland, Daily Mirror, Belfast City Council, Translink, Daily Mirror, ASICS, Centra, Belfast Live and U105. Sampling partners are Musgrave Retailers, Deep RiverRock, Linwoods, Tayto and White Oats. 

Mencap Northern Ireland is the official charity partner of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon for next three years (2016-2018). Mencap urges everyone to #doit4mencap and help more children and young people with a learning disability get the best possible start in life and fulfil their potential. By challenging yourself in this year’s Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon; you will help even more local children and young people with a learning disability live full and happy lives, grow into adults with bright futures in education, employment and family life.

Your marathon challenge will help Mencap provide the vital support children, young people and their families need to live the lives they choose.

This year we are posting out race packs and you will receive a confirmation email with your race details. 


Deadline for entries will be midnight on Friday 8th September 2017.   However, the maximum number of entrants for this event will be 3, 500.  Once this number is reached, event registration will close (even if this is before the official deadline date).


Also this year, participants will have the opportunity to have their race bib personalised with their first name printed alongside their race number.  The deadline for availing of this option is Friday 25th August 2017.   


The route will remain the same as the 2016 event; starting and finishing at Ormeau Park.  CLICK HERE for the route map.

General Instructions (Please read carefully)

  • Entrants for the Half Marathon must be 17 years of age or over on the day of the event.

  • The Half Marathon is a running event.  Although we don't encourage participants to walk the entire route, we understand that some participants may need to walk parts of the route, which is permitted. The course will close at 12noon (3 hours after the starting time), so all participants MUST complete the event within this time.

  • The closing deadline for entries is Friday 8th September 2017.  NO ENTRIES will be accepted after this date (once the event reaches 3,500, we will close registration regardless of the deadline date).

  • It is recommended that potential participants for the Half Marathon Event not currently involved in physical sporting activity should seek medical advice on their suitability to participate.

  • RACE PACKS - PLEASE CHECK YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR RACE PACK BY POST!  There will be NO race packs on Race Day, Sunday 17th September.  If you do not have a race number and chip on race day, you will not receive an official time and medal.  It is essential you contact us before 4.30pm on Friday 15th September if you have not received your race pack, otherwise we will be unable to help you pre-race day.
