CHOMP WITH THE CHAMP
For those of those who may occasionally fall off the healthy eating wagon, good news and sporting inspiration is at hand from none other than Michael Conlan, the Commonwealth, European and recently crowned World Boxing Champion.
Michael has just stepped into the ring with the internationally acclaimed Linwoods Health Food range as Official Health Food Partner, taking his crusade for healthier lifestyles to an even wider audience.
Launching the partnership at a training session at the Ulster Boxing High Performance Centre at Ulster University Jordanstown Campus, Michael Conlan said: “They say there is no glory in training, but without training, there is no glory. That – and the passion I have for my chosen sport – is what keeps me in the gym. But there are many elements to an athletes’ training regime, one of which is a perfectly-balanced diet. Choosing the right nutritional ‘fuel’ is vital to fuelling success in the ring, which is why I am delighted to partner with Linwoods, making their healthy seeds and berries range an important part of my training regime.”
We all know that we should eat a balanced diet of natural, nutrition-packed, sustaining foods … extra important if you are working your body hard training for an event such as The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon. So how come it’s so easy to fall by the nutritional wayside?
Sarah Shimmons, Head of Marketing, Linwoods, believes that much of the answer lies in accessibility. She says, “When you’ve really worked up an appetite you tend to look for a quick refuelling fix – and that need for speed doesn’t always lead to healthy choices.
“At Linwoods we’ve created a range of seeds, nuts and berries which not only tick the nutritional boxes, they’re also easy to use and quickly quell hunger pangs. Sprinkle over cereals, yogurts and salads or stir into soups, smoothies and drinks or add to baking and cooking – simple, speedy, sustaining and delicious too. When it’s this easy to eat well, why would you do anything else?”
That ‘easy eating, healthy living’ ethos has paid off in style for the Armagh based, family-owned company which exports its Linwoods Health Foods ranges of healthy seeds and berries to health-conscious consumers right around the globe. The natural appeal and versatility of those seeds and berries have made them not only an everyday favourite with families in search of healthier lifestyles, but also an important addition to the training regimes of sportsmen and women.
Sarah adds, “A major plus with the Linwoods Health Food ranges is having the opportunity to home in on very specific health and fitness benefits. For example our Shelled Hemp is a great source of Protein with 34.5g of Protein per 100g, contributing to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and the maintenance of normal healthy bones or try Milled Organic Flaxseed Sunflower & Pumpkin Seeds: with 26% RI of Vitamin E in just one serving this blend is a highly effective antioxidant. Add to food for a tasty, crunch and benefit from Fibre, Omega 3, Protein, Zinc and Iron.
“We’ve even come up with a Mini Variety Pack containing seven 15g sachets of our healthy super foods. It’s great if you haven’t tried our range before or if you’re constantly on the go – pop the pack into your gym bag for a daily nutritious boost to your diet.
“To be in partnership with Michael Conlan, one of Ireland’s most successful sportsmen, and the first Irish boxer to lift a World Boxing Championship title, is a fantastic endorsement of our Health Food product range. It’s a connection which reinforces our commitment to providing healthy eating options to sportsmen and women around the world. But Michael is a family man as well as a world class athlete so it’s also a reminder that healthy eating is vital for everyone … and the spectators who will line Belfast’s Marathon route will benefit from eating Linwoods Healthy Seeds and Berries just as much as the runners heading for the finishing line!”
