Newry Duo tackle Half Marathon together
25 August 2017
Newry born Irene and Cathy Rice are in full training for the 5th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon (Sunday 17th September).
Cathy who is a local champion for a number of years has encouraged her mother, a keen walker, to fasten her pace and join her in running them instead. Irene loves her new speed and can’t wait to tackle the 13.1 miles with her daughter.
Irene commented, “this will be my first half marathon and the longest distance which I have run at a competitive level so the nerves and excitement are building!”
Cathy has been helping her mum with training, and says, “sport has enhanced our lives so much with fitness, diet, and our outlook on life.”
Running has not only improved Cathy and Irene’s health, but they have made new friends along the way on their training runs along the canal and city centre. So why not join them and follow their lead down the M1 to the BIGGEST half marathon in Northern Ireland….YOU can do it.
