Meet the Volunteers - Samuel and Sandra
17 August 2019
Introducing Samuel Lavery and Sandra Deane, running pals (and neighbours!) from Belfast who will be volunteering together this September!
“Sandra and I have been neighbours and friends for over 13 years and one thing you need to know is that we have a pact to run no further than 10k.
Sandra started a Couch to 5k app and went out running on her own just to prove to herself that she could. It was only a matter of weeks before I thought it would be a good idea for me to try it and so our relationship with running began!
On 18th August 2018 we ran our first #parkrun together at Ormeau Park and the rest is history. We run together at least 3 times a week and our 3rd 10k will be the Hillsborough Castle run, which also happens to mark our 1st year as runners. We both firmly believe that running is beneficial to both our physical and mental wellbeing.
Volunteering at the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon is a great way for us to give a little something back to the running community and means we can take part whilst our pact remains in place! We have a few friends running and we are looking forward to being the friendly face and cheer of support for all runners just when it is required!”
Fantastic! Thank you so much guys! We simply couldn't deliver a successful event without our hundreds of #volunteers ❤️
The 7th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 22nd September at 9am from Ormeau Embankment. The largest Half Marathon event in NI needs your help to deliver the best experience possible for around 5000 participants & thousands of spectators!
