With many races cancelled due to COVID-19, the organisers of Belfast City Marathon adapted their typical road race to host a pandemic-friendly virtual event – their first ever virtual Half Marathon.

The organisers were delighted to hear that over £36K has been raised for official charity partner, Cancer Focus NI, through sponsorship and donations. This money is funding vital pioneering cancer research at Queen’s University Belfast which has the potential to save lives here in Northern Ireland and across the world.

Not only that but the organisers were delighted to hear all your positive feedback in a recent survey.

90% of you were impressed with the online entry system, 82% felt the event communication was excellent whereas 96% rated our finisher medal exceptional.

Like any event, the organisers were also pleased to receive some helpful suggestions on staging further events in the future.

The success of the event has demonstrated that there is a demand for more virtual events in Northern Ireland following the COVID-19 pandemic and we look forward to taking this into consideration as we prepare to celebrate our 40th year in 2022.

The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon with its full line up of events (Marathon, Team Relay, 8 Mile Walk and Fun Run) will return on Sunday 19th September. Entries are open now at www.belfastcitymarathon.com. If you don’t fancy running but would still like to soak up the buzz and excitement of race day, why not volunteer?
