FOUR STAR PIZZA HITS THE GROUND RUNNING AS OFFICIAL FOOD SPONSOR OF BELFAST CITY MARATHON

DOUGHOLOGISTS at Irish-owned pizza chain Four Star Pizza (FSP) are highly regarded as experts in preparing fresh pizza for customers on a daily basis – but now the company is helping to prepare athletes in training for next year’s Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon.

As Official Food Sponsor for the event, which takes place on Sunday May 3rd 2020, Four Star Pizza will be on track to help seasoned and budding marathon enthusiasts to achieve their personal best by ensuring that they reach the optimum intake of carbohydrates.

According to Runners World, a healthy store of carbs is a key component to fuelling performance in long distance running, so FSP will be on hand to help ‘fuel’ competitors throughout their journey, with a range of special offers to ensure that they are consuming the correct amount when training and in peak condition on the big day.

Four Star Pizza Director Brian Clarke explains why the pizza chain was eager for a slice of the marathon action.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be Official Food Sponsor for the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon,” said Brian. “It’s a highlight in Northern Ireland’s sporting calendar, attracting thousands each year, and we would encourage anyone interested to register and show all of your friends and family you were born to run!

“For some, pizza might seem an unlikely food choice when training for a marathon, but did you know that it can actually help runners to avoid the hitting the dreaded wall halfway through their race?

“We all know that pizza is a great source of carbs which are stored as glycogen in the muscles and liver. Glycogen is the body’s most easily accessibly form of energy and the more energy produced the better!” added Brian.

Claire O’Neill, Event Manager, Belfast City Marathon said: “Four Star Pizza is one of the leading pizza chains here in Northern Ireland and we’re really pleased to bring them on board this year as Official Food Sponsor of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon.

“We know that the guys at Four Star put huge amounts of time, energy and love into making their pizzas and we hope all of our participants put the same effort into their training!”

Four Star Pizza is a wholly Irish-owned Pizza chain, established in 1988, and now operates 58 stores across the island of Ireland, including 14 in Northern Ireland.

The first Four Star Pizza store in NI was opened on Belfast’s Beersbridge Road in 1999, and now the pizza chain operates across the province with other locations including Bangor, Carrickfergus, Newry, Drumahoe, Derry, Armagh, Newtownabbey, Coleraine and Lisburn.

Four Star Pizza is renowned for its pizza dough which is freshly prepared by hand on site daily by passionate and expertly trained pizza chefs, using top quality locally sourced flour.

Last year, the company sold approximately 4.5 million pizzas, using almost 60 million pepperoni slices, more than 500 tonnes of cheese and 1000 tonnes of flour in the process.

The 39th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon will take place from the iconic Stormont Estate on Sunday 3rd May 2020, with a full line up of events to suit all levels of fitness including the Marathon and Wheelchair Race, the Team Relay, 8 Mile Walk and Fun Run.   Participants are encouraged to #MakeItCount in 2020 and run, walk or wheel for Official Charity Partner, Cancer Focus NI to help more people survive from cancer.

Entries can be made via mobile or desktop at www.belfastcitymarathon.com with a middle rate available until Friday 28th February 2020.  Final entry will be on 10th April 2020.
