Belfast City Half Marathon Needs You to Volunteer Now
29 August 2018
On Sunday 23rd September at 9am around 4,000 participants will set off on their 13.1 mile journey from Ormeau Embankment, in a bid to complete the 6th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon.
The largest Half Marathon event in Northern Ireland is preparing for its biggest year yet with the help of local volunteer agency Volunteer Now.
Stephen Burns (Event Manager, Belfast City Marathon) says:
“We want all our participants to enjoy the experience of running the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon”. Each year a highly skilled team pull together to ensure operations run as smoothly as possible on the day. Despite this, Stephen says, “quite simply we could not deliver the biggest Half Marathon in Northern Ireland without our dedicated volunteers. We are delighted to work once again with Volunteer Now to encourage volunteer participation and help make our event a success”.
Darcey Collins from Jordanstown has seen the benefits of signing up with Volunteer Now having enjoyed a Race Marshal role at the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon in May this year. So much so she has signed up for further volunteer duties at the Belfast City Half Marathon:
“I’m very keen to be behind the scenes of an event and help with the setup. Volunteering gives me the opportunity to get involved with the organisation of an event and the chance to meet and work with new people.”
Volunteer Now encourages people of all ages and skill sets to get involved. If, however you are aged between 14-25 years (or know someone who is) you could become a Millennium Volunteer. This is a very rewarding programme for those who are currently volunteers or would like to start and want to have their commitment, skills and experience recognised. Full details here.
Are you like Darcey? Do you like organising and helping people? Do you love being part of a team? The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon needs you to assist in the following roles – Route Marshall (directing runners), Water Stations Team and Pack & Prizes Team.
