All you need to know for Marathon Sunday

With only ONE more sleeps until Marathon Sunday, here is all you need to know to help plan and prepare for your race.

PRE RACE DAY

 

CARB LOADING AND NUTRITION ADVICE FOR RACE DAY

MEDICAL ADVICE

It is ESSENTIAL you read the event medical instructions in full HERE as per the Official Marathon Doctor's advice.  If you feel unwell in any way or are injured, do NOT participate on Sunday!

 **IMPORTANT:  PLEASE COMPLETE YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS ON THE BACK OF YOUR RACE NUMBER AHEAD OF RACE DAY**

Please make yourself familiar with all the First Aid points along the ROUTE.

 

WEATHER

At present weather conditions are looking dry for Sunday but it may be chilly during race morning.  Keep an eye on the forecast and prepare.  If cold, pack a jumper/fleece to wear on race morning.  There will be a bag drop facility should you wish to leave any items (see below).

If conditions prove to be hot and sunny on Sunday, please ensure you wear appropriate clothing, hat/buff and bring sunscreen with you.  Also a small bottle of water to keep you hydrated for the first few miles. 

 

TRAVEL / PARKING

Plan ahead with your travel for race day.  There are lots of parking options available should you wish to car share and free shuttle buses will be in operation getting participants and spectators to the start.  Click HERE for details.

TRAFFIC DISRUPTION

Road closures will be in place across the city on Sunday 5 May.  Please bear this in mind as you plan your travel and let friends and family know who make not be taking part but need to travel.  Full details can be found HERE.

RACE EXPO SATURDAY 4 MAY

A chance to check out the Ormeau Park finish area and enjoy some family fun entertainment ahead of race day.  There's also the opportunity purchase a late entry for any of the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon events - Marathon, Team Relay, 9 Mile Walk and Fun Run.  Click HERE for details.

 

ON RACE DAY SUNDAY

 

GETTING TO STORMONT START

The Marathon, Team Relay and 9 Mile Walk start at 9am at Stormont (Prince of Wales Avenue). **The Fun Run starts at Ormeau Embankment.

There will be a free shuttle bus from outside SS Moores (City Hall) between 7-8am to take you to Stormont. 

There's over 2,300 free car parking spaces at Stormont should you wish to car share.

Return buses are available from Ormeau Embankment after 11am.  Details HERE.

 

GETTING TO YOUR TEAM RELAY CHANGEOVER

Free shuttle buses have been organised through Translink to take you to your changeover point including return (except Ormeau Park which is walking distance from city centre).  Details of the Relay changeover point locations and shuttle buses can be found HERE.

 

SPECTATORS AND SUPPORTERS GETTING TO AND FROM STORMONT

Family and friends can take the free shuttle bus to Stormont (from outside SS Moores 7-8am).  

A shuttle bus will take spectators to the Ormeau Park area after the race has started.  This bus will be in operation from the Massey Avenue entrance of Stormont Estate and will drop off at Annadale Embankment (near Dunnes Stores), a short walk from the finish area of Ormeau Park.  Details HERE.

 

BUSES TO CITY CENTRE AND STORMONT AFTER THE RACE

A free shuttle bus system will be in operation from approximately 11am from Ormeau Embankment to SS Moores, City Centre (last service 4.30pm).  A  bus transfer is then available to Stormont (last service 5pm).

 

BAG DROP FACILITY

There will be a bag drop facility at Stormont and also at Ormeau Park.  

Please attach your bag tag (from your race bib) to your own bag.  A small rucksack is advisable.  Bags must be dropped off no later than 8.40am at Stormont.  These will be transported to Ormeau Park ready for collection when you finish.

**Please do not leave any valuables in your bag as we cannot be held liable for any items lost or damaged.

 

BIG SCREEN LIVE ON RACE DAY

Follow the event on YouTube at https://bit.ly/2PRMXiw & Facebook (Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon) on Sunday 5 May from approx 10am when there will be live streaming from the Big Screen at Ormeau Park!  Tell family & friends your predicted finish time so they can look out for you! TOILETS

There will be ample toilets available at the Stormont start (Prince of Wales Avenue), along the route (see MAP) and in the Ormeau Park finish area.

 

HYDRATION AND ENERGY POINTS

There are 8 water stations (330ml Deep RiverRock bottles) located approx at miles 6, 9, 12, 15, 16, 17.5, 21, 23,  Two High 5 Energy gel stations approx miles 16 & 21, Three Powerade energy drinks stations approx miles 13, 17 & 18 along the marathon route.  Also an oranges station at approx 12 miles and a jelly beans station at approx mile 23 from SPAR.  Full details HERE.

 

TRACKING APP

There is no official tracking app for the event yet (plans are being considered for future events).  Please source an alternative tracking option for race day.
