Get ‘fitted out’ for Marathon

18 January 2010 - 18 January 2010

With 15 weeks to go to the big day, organisers of the 2010 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon have issued a timely reminder to runners about the importance of not only being fit for the challenge but also being properly ‘fitted out’.

“It’s essential that everyone taking part – whether running the full distance, doing a leg of the relay or doing the walk - has the right footwear to help them go the distance,” said event manager, Claire O’Reilly.

“We’re delighted to say that two of our partners are lending a helping hand by organising a special promotional week, when entrants can get their running style analysed and then matched with the best type of shoe for them,” she announced.

From this coming Wednesday (20 January), through until next Tuesday, Up And Running Belfast will be offering free expert gait analysis – worth £20 – at their Wellington Place shop (opposite RBAI), to help determine the correct level of cushioning and stability needed in your shoes to optimise your running style.

New Balance, the Marathon’s footwear and sportswear sponsor, also will have some of their specialist technical running representatives there on certain days, to provide expert marathon training plans and help with selecting the perfect pair of trainers.

New Balance’s James Thexton said:

“It is highly important to purchase your running shoes from a speciality store and have your foot type and stride pattern analysed.

“Bring in your old shoes as well as we will be able to see from the bottom how your have worn them in. You should look to bed in new shoes at least two months before the race.”

As an added incentive during the week, every pair of full priced New Balance running shoes purchased at Up And Running Belfast during the week will come with a free gift – and there will be 10 per cent off all New Balance products.

Free gait analysis also will be on offer at the Europa Bus Centre on Thursday (21 January), between 2pm and 6pm.

The 2010 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon takes place on Monday 3 May, starting at City Hall at 9am. For full details, including online entry, training plans and lots of other useful information and links, visit www.belfastcitymarathon.com
