FINAL FITTING FOR THE MARATHON

25 April 2009 - 25 April 2009

If you are one of over 16,000 people taking part in the Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon next weekend make sure you take advantage of the promotional week that is happening at the Up & Running store in Belfast from 27th April to 3rd May.

Whether you are running alone or as part of a relay team, race entrants will be able to access expert gait analysis at the shop (worth £20), to help determine the correct level of cushioning and stability needed in their shoes and optimise your running style. Every pair of full priced New Balance running shoes purchased that weekend will include a free warm up / cool down hoodie!* (worth £30)

New Balance, the event’s footwear and sportswear sponsor, will be providing specialist technical reps throughout the week to make sure you get the trainers that will help you perform best on race day.

New Balance technical rep James Thexton said, “It is highly important to purchase your running shoes from a speciality store and have your foot type and stride pattern analysed. Bring in your old shoes as well as we will be able to see from the bottom how your have worn them in. You should look to bed in the shoes you have for a race about four to six weeks beforehand.”

Also on hand will be the Up & Running team for the Marathon, comprised of staff members from the store. The team is a hot favourite to win the team challenge, with four out of five members competing at international level for cross country for Northern Ireland.

Conor Flannigan, who runs for North Belfast Harriers said, “We have all been running for about 10 years but this is the first time we have run together as a team so we are really excited. Last year I ran with my club and we won in 2:21, so I hope we can do the same or better that this year. It would be amazing to beat the individual first place in the marathon this time; in 2008 we overtook everyone bar the first place winner.”

The Up & Running shop is located on Wellington Place (60-64) in Belfast City Centre.
