The organisers of the Belfast City Half Marathon are delighted to OPEN entries for their 2017 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon which was launched this morning and takes place on Sunday 17th September.

The event is an extension of the hugely popular May Day Bank Holiday Marathon which enjoyed its 36th running year on Monday May 1st and we are pleased to confirm that Mencap will again be the Official Nominated Charity for this event.

David Seaton MBE, Chairman of the Belfast City Marathon organising committee, commented:

“As we approach the fifth running of Belfast Half Marathon I would like to thank our principal sponsor, Deep River Rock, for their ongoing interest and support for this eagerly awaited annual event.

The Belfast Half Marathon has proved popular with competitors, sponsors and organisers alike and is regarded by the local athletics fraternity as one of the main fixtures on the Northern Ireland road running calendar.

Coming as it does in the middle of September it is an ideal preparation race for those undertaking an autumn marathon, particularly the Dublin event scheduled for late October.  I hope all those competing on Sunday 17th September have an enjoyable and rewarding day as they take in many well-known areas of our capital city.” David remarked.

“Everyone can sign up on our website www.belfastcitymarathon.com.”

Rob Crabbe, Sponsorship Manager with Deep RiverRock said; "As Northern Ireland’s favourite water brand with its roots in Tullynacross, Co. Antrim, Deep RiverRock is delighted to continue its long standing partnership with Belfast City Marathon for their secondary event; the Half Marathon in September 2016.

“With a shared vision to encourage more people to lead active and hydrated lifestyles, Deep RiverRock’s partnership with Belfast City Half Marathon is a perfect fit. Deep RiverRock is proud to be associated with such a world class event that resonates so well with the local community and as a company we are honoured to have played a part in the success of what is now a key event in Northern Ireland’s sporting calendar.”

Vanessa Elder, Head of Fundraising NI highlighted, “We are absolutely delighted to work with Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon for the next 2 years.  More importantly, Mencap is particularly  proud to come together with all of the event's sponsor to ask that everyone get involved on 17th Sept -to make a huge difference to children, young people and adults with a learning disability, right here in Northern Ireland.

With Deep RiverRock City Half Marathon- we will continue to highlight that no matter your ability, we can all take on a marathon challenge.

To complete a half marathon is a huge achievement, but it will be even more fulfilling knowing that this accomplishment will help more children and young people with a learning disability across Northern Ireland. So I urge you to sign up and #StepUp4Mencap in this year’s half marathon challenge.”
