Crowne Plaza, Belfast plays host to the 2017 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon Awards
The evening began with light refreshments and the cutting of the fabulous Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon 2017 cake, followed by speeches from title sponsor Deep RiverRock.
Robert Crabbe, Island of Ireland Sponsorship Manager said;
“Deep RiverRock have been title sponsors of the Belfast City Marathon for 11 years and we are honoured to be part of its ongoing success. The changes to the finish pen and being able to provide bottled water on route, has encouraged positive change and development of the Belfast City Marathon”.
2017 saw approximately 15,000 runners/walkers take to the streets of Belfast on Bank Holiday Monday, and of course the first Northern Ireland female since 1999 to take the ladies crown. Mourne Runner’s Laura Graham placed 2nd in the 2016 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon, but this year stole our hearts and captured the support of the Northern Ireland community. After competing in London, just a week before Belfast, Laura showed no signs of fatigue through the gruelling 26.2 mile course.
Chairman of the Belfast City Marathon, David Seaton said;
“I am delighted that the Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon has grown in numbers from 3000 in 1982 to over 15000 in 2017. The icing on the cake for our event this year was the win by local girl Laura Graham. Just 8 days after a fine run in the London Marathon the Kilkeel lady produced an impressive personal best performance to take the Belfast title for the second time”.
“I would like to thank the sponsors, athletes, staff, officials, police, volunteers and our charity Mencap for coming together to make our event such a success. I look forward to working with you all again next year”.
