4th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon Launched

The organisers of the Belfast City Half Marathon are delighted to OPEN entries for their 2016 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon which was launched this week and takes place on Sunday 18th September.

The event is an extension of the hugely popular May Day Bank Holiday Marathon which enjoys its 35th running year on Monday May 2nd and we are pleased to confirm that Mencap will be the Official Nominated Charity for both events.

David Seaton MBE, Chairman of the Belfast City Marathon organising committee, commented:

“We are overwhelmed with the success of the last three years with regards to the half marathon event, so much so that we are delighted to offer this to everyone on annual basis. For the 2016 event, we are welcoming back our title sponsor, Deep RiverRock. With their experience and support as title sponsor of the Full Marathon we look forward to working together to increase participation numbers on Race Day.

For the 2016 event, we have chosen to start and finish in Ormeau Park. The site lends itself to running events like our Full Marathon May Day Event, as well as being located close to the City Centre for convenience for participants and spectators alike.

Our route will again showcase the city of Belfast by passing major landmarks including Belfast City Hall, Albert Clock and the Titanic Quarter to help raise money for our official charity.” David remarked.

“For more details on the route and to sign up, please our website www.belfastcitymarathon.com.”

Rob Crabbe, Sponsorship Manager with Deep RiverRock said; "As Northern Ireland’s favourite water brand with its roots in Tullynacross, Co. Antrim, Deep RiverRock is delighted to continue its long standing partnership with Belfast City Marathon for their secondary event; the Half Marathon in September 2016.

“With a shared vision to encourage more people to lead active and hydrated lifestyles, Deep RiverRock’s partnership with Belfast City Half Marathon is a perfect fit. Deep RiverRock is proud to be associated with such a world class event that resonates so well with the local community and as a company we are honoured to have played a part in the success of what is now a key event in Northern Ireland’s sporting calendar.”

Vanessa Elder, Fundraising Manager highlighted, “We are absolutely delighted to work with Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon for the next 3 years. More importantly, Mencap is particularly proud to come together with all of the event's sponsor to ask that everyone get involved on 18th Sept -to make a huge difference to children, young people and adults with a learning disability, right here in Northern Ireland.
With Deep RiverRock City Half Marathon- we will continue to highlight that no matter your ability, we can all take on a marathon challenge.
To complete a half marathon is a huge achievement, but it will be even more fulfilling knowing that this accomplishment will help more children and young people with a learning disability across Northern Ireland. So I urge you to sign up and #doit4mencap this year and help more children like Daire.”
